Tik Tok, and Facebook, Oh My!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0Use of social media as a tool for self-promotion, to say the least, is something that I grapple with as an artist.\u00a0 I imagine that many artists and writers share my pain.\u00a0 How much is too much?\u00a0 Am I not tweeting enough?\u00a0 Why did this or that person follow or unfollow?\u00a0 What are the pitfalls and strengths of Facebook?\u00a0 How many likes did a post receive?<br \/><br \/>Sometimes, if I\u2019m being honest, I find myself signing onto Twitter often, in order to check for new followers or view the reception of posts.\u00a0 Inevitably, I think, <em>why am I doing this?\u00a0 Am I lost among the weeds?\u00a0 This shouldn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 The art speaks for itself.\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry if people like it or not.<\/em>\u00a0 <br \/><br \/>Maybe I\u2019m too hard on myself, but I realize that I\u2019m awful at social media.\u00a0 I\u2019ll likely never take to it naturally, and I can\u2019t be the only one who feels this way.\u00a0 And it\u2019s not so much that I <em>feel<\/em> this way\u2026 I <em>am<\/em> this way. <br \/><br \/>The ever-changing dynamics of how to promote online seems, at least to me, a very constant uphill struggle.\u00a0 There\u2019s an app for this and that, along with a constant barrage of fractured communication methods.\u00a0 Very little appears simple and straightforward.<\/p>\n<p>I probably sound like an old timer, but\u2026 I\u2019m patient\u2026 very patient and humble, and it continues to boggle my mind that attention spans of younger individuals are generally so short.\u00a0 So much information seems to literally exist at our fingertips\u2026 but what are we doing with this access?\u00a0 <br \/><br \/>I\u2019m very quiet.\u00a0 And shy.\u00a0 Introverted.\u00a0 It\u2019s part of my personality.\u00a0 I\u2019ll likely always function within a particular bubble.\u00a0 The perimeters of the bubble may bend to a certain degree, but the edges of the sphere are likely to only allow so much give.\u00a0 If that hinders me as an artist in the age of social networking, then I may have to accept a slow and steady growth.\u00a0 <em>Slow and steady wins the race?\u00a0 Is it even a race?\u00a0 See what I mean?<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alas, with all of this in mind, it\u2019s easy to miss the bigger picture.\u00a0 At the end of the day, I\u2019m me\u2026 and I have to remain true to who I inherently am.\u00a0 I can always do better.\u00a0 I can always post more or spend more time on various platforms.\u00a0 What is it that Laura Dern says in <em>Wild at Heart?<\/em>\u00a0 \u201cThis whole world is wild at heart and weird on top!\u201d<br \/><br \/>It sure is.\u00a0 Now, to continue following my heart\u2026 <br \/><br
